Mental health COUNSELING

Athletes face a unique struggle in balancing a variety of demands and life transitions, often accompanied by increased pressure and expectations. Attending to mental health and wellness needs is a critical component to a flourishing athlete at any level.

Issues explored in sessions include (but not limited to): changes in performance, motivation, concerns with physical care, reduced self-confidence in abilities as an athlete, problems in social or team relationships, managing and balancing demands, injury and recovery, & transition out of sport.

One thing that makes me different than most providers who work with student athletes, since I am also an Athletic Trainer, it’s within my scope of practice as an Athletic Trainer to help you navigate your physical health as well as your mental health. Benefits of Athlete-Centered Counseling

Build Self Confidence

The belief in self is hard to develop when your performance is not up to your personal standards. Let’s put a plan together that builds on your current levels of confidence and enhance your ability to perform.

Identify Strengths

Every athlete has certain strengths and weaknesses. as an athlete wanting to continually improve, I'm sure you're not satisfied with the fact that there are weaknesses holding you back within your game. That's why you want to work on turning your weaknesses into strengths.

Mental Health

An athlete with a physical injury wouldn’t refuse medical care, the same isn’t true for seeking mental health care. Packed schedules. Intense workouts. Pressure from coaches, teammates and fans. Those are three of the many stressors that athletes may experience. And all of those stressors raise the risk of mental health concerns.

Injury Recovery

For athletes, injury and trauma can create emotional and mental issues that one is not familiar with and therefore not equipped to handle.

As LPC who also has clinical experience as an ATC, I can work with you through the injury or trauma to take away the fear of the unknown, determine a path towards recovery.

Athlete/Sport Burnout

Burnout is a response to chronic stress of continued demands in a sport or activity without the opportunity for physical and mental rest and recovery. Burnout is a syndrome of continual training and sport attention stress, resulting in staleness, overtraining and eventually burnout. Many athletes experiencing burnout report feeling trapped by circumstances of sports participation
